Just don’t seek from another

Or you’ll be far estranged from the Way.

I now go on alone

Meeting it everywhere

It now is just what I am

I now am one with it.

You must comprehend in this way

To merge with thusness.

Students as numerous as

sands in the Ganges but none are awakened.

They err by searching for the path in another person’s mouth.

If you wish to forget form and not leave any traces,

wholeheartedly strive to walk

in emptiness.

do the next thing with devotion

it’s not always about the men

Nobody can set right

a mismanaged life with a few words.

But there is no pit you cannot climb out of provided

you make the right effort at the right place. When one is in a mess

like you are, one has no right any more to worry about the idiocy of one’s

own psychology, but must do the next thing with diligence and devotion

and earn the goodwill of others. In every littlest thing you do in this

way you will find yourself. Everyone has to do it the hard

way, and always with the next, the littlest,

and the hardest things.

zen requires detachment from thoughts

direct the mind toward emptiness

Generally speaking,

practical application of zen requires

detachment from thoughts. This method of zen

saves the most energy. It just requires you to detach from

emotional thoughts, and understand that there is nothing concrete

in the realms of desire, form, and formlessness; only then

can  you apply zen practically. If you try to practice it

otherwise, it will seem bitterly painful

by comparison.
