the way is without words

support sheldrick wildlife trust

In its essence,

the Way is without words.

All this talking and pointing

and carrying on, only signposts.

Gather too many of them

and they’ll weigh you

down. Just be

silent.

the wise person sets an example

a lot can happen

When praise is

lavished upon the famous,

the people contend and compete with

one another. When exotic goods are traded

and treasured, the compulsion to steal is

felt. When desires are constantly

stimulated, people become

disturbed and

confused.

Therefore,

the wise person sets an example

by emptying her mind, opening her heart,

relaxing her ambitions, relinquishing her desires,

cultivating her character. Having conquered her

own cunning and cravings, she can’t

be manipulated by

anyone.

Do

by not-doing.

Act with non-action.

Allow order to arise

of itself.

a clear and open state of freedom

Cogitation,

making judgements,

following patterns, firing arrows,

engaging in endless ideation and emotional

behavior — all these are to be abandoned

and transcended on the

Way.

Be still.

Do non doing.

A clear and open

state of freedom

will appear.

freedom and quietude

just be still

The fun of roaming free

is endless, hard to exhaust. When tired

I sit on a mossy bank, unaware of the cold sun falling

in my love for the cool of the breeze in the pines. Deer descend

to drink of the valley streams; monkeys arrive to pick of

the mountain fruits. What I originally valued were

freedom and quietude; why should

I require that people

know of me?
