life has some possibility left

joy from the archives

If you suddenly

and unexpectedly feel joy,

don’t hesitate. Give in to it. There are

plenty of lives and whole towns destroyed

or about to be. We are not wise, and not very often

kind. And much can never be redeemed. Still life has some

possibility left. Perhaps this is its way of fighting back, that sometimes

something happened better than all the riches or power in the world.

It could be anything, but very likely you notice it in the instant

when love begins. Anyway, that’s often the case.

Anyway, whatever it is, don’t be afraid

of its plenty. Joy is not made

to be a crumb.

sever the attachments of mind and self

this mysterious place

To

realize the Way you

must die and stay dead and

go on living. With one mighty blow,

sever the attachments of mind

and self and dwell in

emptiness.

Pouring

emptiness into emptiness

like waves coming to shore,

you become quiet,

luminous,

still.

Where

before there were

ten thousand entanglements, now

there is undifferentiated

Oneness, clarity,

peace.

cast aside all thoughts

enlightenment is not apart from the world

To be unstained

in all environments is called no-thought…

If you stop thinking of the myriad things, and cast aside

all thoughts, as soon as one instant of thought is

cut off, you enter another realm.

The Dharma of no-thought means:

even though you see all things, you do not

attach to them, but, always keeping your own nature

pure, cast the six thieves of the senses to

exit through the six gates.

Even though you are

in the midst of the six dusts,

you do not stand apart from them,

yet are not stained by them, and

are free to come and go.
